Synopsis

Sophie Amundsen, a curious 14-year-old girl, finds her ordinary life turned upside down when she begins receiving mysterious letters containing profound philosophical questions. These letters are from an unknown philosopher, Alberto Knox, who becomes her guide on an extraordinary adventure through the entire history of Western philosophy. From the ancient Greeks wrestling with the fundamental stuff of the universe to modern thinkers pondering existence and consciousness, Sophie learns about humanity's age-old quest for understanding, exploring concepts like reality, knowledge, ethics, and the very nature of being. This philosophical education unfolds not just as dry lessons, but as a personal journey that challenges Sophie to think deeply about the world around her and her place within it. As Sophie delves deeper into the philosophical past, a strange parallel mystery begins to unfold. Postcards addressed to a girl named Hilde Moller Knag, seemingly from her father, a UN major stationed in Lebanon, start appearing in Sophie's world.
